Ferry prices to the Isle of Wight are notoriously high. The following examples are believed normal for a standard (5 day to 1 month) return with WIGHTlink, for a car plus its driver:
• Normal cost (during seven months through April / October) £81.
• For certain days during the Easter break and ‘end of May’ bank holiday period / week rising to £117.
• For ‘convenient’ hours Saturdays during the six-week school holidays mid July through August £129.
Fares for additional adults cost £12.40 and children £6.20. Note that children are those between 5 and 15 (where under 5 travel free).
Thus a car and typical family of two adults + two children (between 5 and 15) may expect to pay in the order of £106, £142, or £154 respectively for ferry crossings – depending upon for when the holiday is arranged.
These are the ‘worst case’ prices, and hopefully you should be offered better than this when you book. Savings should be achieved if arranged in good time prior to trip and likely cheaper again if booked via internet.
Please contact WIGHTlink (0870 582 7744) to obtain quotes that meet your exact requirements. Ask about their ‘saver fares’ - for example their ‘Night Flyer’ service. Late night trips may be available for less than £60 return at certain times of year – for a car and family up to four. We would need to make special arrangements for caravan key collection etc.
WIGHTlink operate between Portsmouth / Fishboune (IW)
and between Lymington / Yarmouth (IW). www.wightlink.co.uk
The alternative Red Funnel service is a longer journey
and will probably cost slightly more – contact 0870
444 8898. It operates between Southampton and W. Cowes
(IW).
